Heidi Klums Wants To Lose 20 (more) Lbs.
Super duper model Heidi “The Body” Klum, who is known for snapping back after having a baby, couldn’t seem to pull it together this time:
Heidi, who just had her 4th child, has opted to not hit the gym to snap back in time to hit the runway for the annual Victoria’s Secret fashion show that just happened. And while she says she is comfortable with her curves, she still wants to lose 20 lbs.
*sigh* This is exactly what is wrong with society today. For young girls who look at Heidi as this beautiful woman who has it all, and has a great body, I feel as if this a slap in their face. The modeling industry has come under fire plenty of times for the weight of models, and the way women are portrayed as it pertains to size. For years, unrealistic images have plagued the pages of magazines, and skinnier than life models have stomped the most prestigious runways.
With this unhealthy standard of beauty, and with so many impressionable young minds aspiring to be these women, no wonder there have been cases of models dying due to complications from anorexia, suicides among super models who seemingly have it all, and an increased rate of depression stemming from body image issues. In a recent 106 & Park episode, discussing body image, host Rocsi Diaz came clean about her past battle with anorexia and body image issues. The already slim Rocsi, said while in High School she would eat then make her self throw up to be a certain size, even though she was only a few inches short of 5 feet and 100 lbs (tiny!)
I have always admired Heidi because she seemed to be one of those models that didn’t try to fit in that unrealistic lane of super skinny. She has always had curves, always had a great body, and was never afraid to get “stretched out” by life’s most precious joy. So to hear her say she is comfortable but STILL wants to lose 20 lbs, it upsets me goddamnit! 20 more lbs gone from this woman’s body, do you know what she would look like?! Heidi is doing what we like to call “the most”!
Instead of choosing to remain one of the more positive, self-aware, comfortable women in modeling/fashion, she sort of slaps us all in the face. With her being a role model and an icon, even if she did feel this way, she should have kept her new weight goal on her vision board. This is just whack to me! I would expect this from anyone else, besides her! There are about 250,000 girls in America giving themselves the once over in the mirror right now, vowing to never eat again– until they are down 20 more lbs of course. People don’t understand the magnitude of influence they have over impressionable minds, and when you’re a role model, you have to be a lot more selective with the things you say. You see how Jay-Z says all black everything is in, and now no one wants to wear any other color? Well, Heidi just did the same thing! Except, it’s not a designer she’s putting on the map, or a color palette she’s setting in motion. And I don’t want to hear that “I don’t want to be a real model” crap, because you are! Face it.
“Excuses are tools of the incompetent used to build monuments of nothing, and those who use them are seldom good for anything”. My favorite quote of all time.
That whole “I don’t want to be a real model” is an age-old excuse to not accept your social responsibility. When you’re setting trends and signing autographs for your new book at Border’s, you’re accepting the seemingly lightweight responsibility of being a role model then, but when it comes to the nitty-gritty of selective word use, and what you choose to put out there, you all of a sudden don’t want to accept it. All I have to say about this, and to any other starlet is:
UNDERSTAND THE POWER OF YOUR WORDS ON IMPRESSIONABLE MINDS.
UNDERSTAND THE MAGNITUDE OF YOUR ACTIONS.
KNOW THAT THERE ARE YOUNG PEOPLE OUT THERE, AND IN THEIR EYES- YOU CAN DO NO WRONG!
ACCEPT YOUR INVOLUNTARY SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY, WHICH COMES WITH THE TERRITORY OF FAME.
Heidi Klum just validated 250,000 young girls’ feelings of insecurity. If Heidi thinks she’s too fat, and needs to lose 20 lbs, then I must be Free Willy. You get me?
