Get It Straight!
The bob came back with a bang, and everyone joined in on the exciting trend (even me!). It was perfect for summer, easy to manage, didn’t cost as much to maintain at the salon, and versatile. It could be edgy and sexy, or it could be classy and sophisticated. It was good while it lasted, but it’s time to switch up! Fall is back in full effect, and it’s time to do something new, and fun. I say, get it straight:
I’m talking bone straight, glossy, long hair. No bumps at the end, lumps at the top. Bone straight from root to tip, from center part to bang. It’s not nothing new, it’s not an innovative approach to hair, it’s something that has been around just as long as the bob, if not longer. It’s also easy to maintain, easy to take care of, and an easy look to implicate. So easy, you won’t have to step foot in a salon to do it (unless you’re getting a weave :-p)! And I’ll show you how…
STEP 1: Relax/Wash your hair
This step all depends on the type of hair you have, the thickness, and manageability. Some of us doesn’t have to go through the process of relaxing our hair, and some of us, like myself, do. Well, if you must relax your hair, here is a relaxer I recommend for you:
Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil No-Lye Relaxer System $8.79, Walgreen’s
Possibly the best relaxer on the market! It’s not as damaging on hair like other relaxers, it has built in protection, olive oil to strengthen hair, and it’s smell isn’t as strong as other relaxers. It also leaves an unbeatable shine and bounce! I use it all the time for my hair!
**IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO RELAX YOUR OWN HAIR, GO TO A PROFESSIONAL SALON FOR THIS STEP**
Shampoo & Conditioner:
Nexxus Therappe Shampoo $15.99, Target
Nexxus Humectress Conditioner $24.99, Target
The Nexxus line of products is used in hair salons everywhere, known as “couture for your hair”, it’s products combine superior natural and botanical ingredients with state of the art scientific breakthrough to get strong, healthy hair. Although this is a professional system, it’s not a “rocket science, don’t try this at home” system either. Get the salon look without going to the salon!
STEP 2: Wet Styling
While hair is wet, we usually put in rollers, or a wrap and go under the dryer, but when getting this style, this part is a little different.
CHI Straight Guard Smoothing Styling Cream $12.99, Target
While hair is damp, put an ample amount in the palm of your hands and rub it in your hair, from root to strand, or until you feel you’ve covered all bases. This advanced straightening product doesn’t miss a step, and will help you achieve the bone straight look. CHI is known to have the best hair products and Rihanna‘s stylist, Ursula Stephen, has said that she uses their products a lot on Rihanna and many of her other clients!
CAUTION: DO NOT PUT TOO MUCH, THIS WILL WEIGH DOWN YOUR HAIR!
Step 3: Blow Dry
After you’ve applied the CHI straight guard smoothing styling serum, you have to blow dry your hair. Remember, theres no rollers, wraps, or sitting under a dryer here!
Revlon Amber Waves 1,875-watt Ion Dryer $18.79, Target
I am personally a HUGE fan of Revlon’s hair products! They’re cost efficient and the get the job done just as well, if not better, than most of these “high end” line of products (I want call any names). You can use this dryer, if you don’t already have one, to dry your hair. I also recommend you use a wide tooth comb while blow drying your hair. No tail combs, because they can break your hair, especially when wet, and also weigh down your hair. While the wide tooth comb will give the hair more bounce, and also eliminate the possibility of static.
Step 4: Get it straight!
After the hair is clean, the styling serum is on, and it’s dry, the final step is straightening your hair.
Revlon Perfect Heat Professional 1″ Ceramic Straightener $25.99, Target
I love this straightening iron! I have it, and I use it everyday (horrible, I know). At first I was a little skeptical about buying it because it was so cheap, but like I said, Revlon has some of the best hair products on the market! Quote me. It heats up in no time, the heat level goes up to 25, which makes it perfect for all hair types. Whether thick or thin, this little number will straighten your situation out.
TIP: When straightening your hair, remember to not “bump” the ends, which means not to curl it under. The look you are trying to achieve is a bone straight look, no curls or bumps necessary. Go straight from root to tip, on one straight line.
Step 5: Shine on
The final step, after all is said and done, and the world has continued to revolve on its axis, you just need to LIGHTLY spray your hair with sheen and go.
Kimble Shine Spray $10.99, Target
World renowned hair stylist, Kimberly Kimble (who is most famous for creating the hair do’s in B.A.P.S. and giving Beyonce her signature looks), has created her own line of home hair care products, so we can get the Kimble look without dropping Kimble cash! With this light, non greasy shine spray, you can just spritz it on your hair after you’re finished styling it, and go. DO NOT spray too close to your hair (hold bottle about 3-4 inches away), and DO NOT spray too much in one area. Just about 5 sprays throughout the whole head should do the trick. If you do too much, the bounce is out the window, and the grease and heaviness is in.
The bobs were cool for summer, but the bone straight long look is perfect for fall. It’s also a go everywhere style as well: work, party, date, or just casually enjoying your city.
